A Day of Media Monitoring

Women are still misrepresented in the news coverage and their participation is also low, however change has taken place regarding the situation compared to 15 years ago.
This information is contained in a media monitoring carried out by the Global Media Monitoring Project on gender issue in 108 countries at the same time on the same day in 2010.
The research that has been coordinated by the Project continuously since 1995 has demonstrated the fact that the World reflected in the news is mostly that of male.
Almost 76 per cent of the world news that is read and listened to is related to males, according to the research.
The research that was made public in Arabic, English, French and Spanish languages has shown that 24 per cent of the world news disseminated during a day is of female.
The research was undertaken among the individuals mentioned in 17,795 news items of 1,365 newspapers, televisions and radio stations and 38253 news items of internet news sites of 108 countries occupying 82 per cent of the total world population.
